Kyrgyzstan: the laid-back, mountainous, and vowel-challenged -stan
Before I learnt how to spell and pronounce the country’s name, I was cautioned against going there alone because of the notoriety of bride-kidnapping. Something else that surprised me about Kyrgyzstan? How some of the people had such East Asian features. More reasons to travel and find the truth out for yourself.
The legendary Pamir Highway first brought me to this neck of the mountains. I also featured Kyrgyzstan prominently in my Coronavirus Travels, which is a pity because the Kyrgyz whom I know personally are some of the most welcoming people I have met. I really don’t think I did the country and people justice. So I encourage you to come and visit, post covid-19.
